“Venice by Night”

Each night the water tide would flood the Saint Marcus Square, by rising up through the drains. Within 1 1/2 hour, the entire square was completely submerged in water, and the only way to get around was either by using the ramps that was set up each night, or by getting your feet wet.

By the time the water started raising we went back to the hotel, to get my camera equipment, and when we got back the water level was so already so high that I had to carry my girlfriend, who was wearing boots with heels, through the water. Unintentionally we became the subject of a few people with cameras who apparently found it very romantic.

Anyway, we got to the other side dry, well at least one of us did. My girlfriend took this snapshot of me after we crossed the water:

What I would come to realize soon after that picture was taken, was that my boots had a small leak. So I pulled together all my ingenuity and came up with this silly contraption for waterproofing my boots:

The waterproof boots contraption
Notice my confidence? – Well it lasted right up until the bags took in water, trapping it inside, which resulted in my boots getting even more soaked. Luckily that didn’t happen before we were on our way back to the hotel, so I guess you can say it worked as intended (well almost :P).
